The All-Aegis 2023 girls and boys cross country teams

Here are the 2023 All-Aegis cross country teams:

First team girls

Ellie Bassham, C. Milton Wright, senior: The outstanding runner of the 2023 season, she won four of her eight races, including the UCBAC championship in 18:04 (3 miles) and the Maryland Track and Trail Invitational. She took third in the 2A East Region meet and fourth in the 2A state meet. “I love running, I love this sport, I love my team,” she said after the state meet.

Willow Borowski, Edgewood, freshman: A strong No. 2 runner for the Rams, she finished 10th in the UCBAC meet in a 3-mile personal best of 19:55. She then took ninth in the 3A North Region meet. She also played varsity soccer for Edgewood this season.

Madilyn Coyle, North Harford, freshman: She was the Hawks’ No. 2 runner in six of their meets. She placed seventh in the Harford invitational, 11th in the UCBAC, 10th in the 2A East Region meet, 10th in the Maryland Track and Trail, and 40th in the state meet.

Isabel Devos, Harford Tech, sophomore: She placed third in the 1A state meet to lead the Tech girls to second place, their best-ever finish in the state meet. Among her three wins and three second-place finishes, she was the 1A East Region champion and the runner-up in the Maryland Track and Trail Invitational.

Brooklynn Eagan, North Harford, freshman: She finished first, second or third for her team in six of her meets this season. One of three freshmen who were key in the Hawks’ outstanding season, she finished eighth in the 2A East Regional and 13thin the UCBAC in a personal best 3 mile of 20:11.

Abigail Finley, Bel Air, junior: She finished second in three of her first four meets of the season. She placed eighth in the Harford Invitational and eighth in the Chesapeake Division meet, 14th in the UCBAC and 12th in the 3A North Region meet.

Abigail Horsman, Patterson Mill, sophomore: She won three of her first four races of the season, including the girls small varsity race at the Bull Run in which she outran a field of 87. She ran a PR of 19:00 for 3 miles in the Harford Invitational, placing third. She was seventh in the UCBAC, second in the 1A East Regional, and fifth in the 1A state meet in which she led the Huskies to sixth place.

Eden Hussung, North Harford, junior: She led the Hawks to victory in the UCBAC and 2A East Region meet, placing ninth in the UCBAC in 19:46 and fifth in the regional. She was also fifth in the Harford Invitational, seventh in the Maryland Track and Trail, and tenth in the medium schools division of the Bull Run.

Cameryn Loper, C. Milton Wright, sophomore: A consistent performer, she finished in the top 10 in all nine races she ran. She was fifth in the UCBAC, fourth in the 2A East Region meet, and ninth in the state meet in 20:12, the third fastest time by a Harford girl in the state meet.

Cammille Miller, Bel Air, junior: She led Bel Air with a fifth-place finish in 3A North Region meet. In the state meet, she placed 33rd in 21:11, the sixth fastest time by a Harford girl over the 3-mile state-meet course.

Gabi Murphy, Fallston sophomore: She won three of her seven races, including the Spiked Shoe Invitational and Harford Invitational. She finished second in the 2A East Region meet and the UCBAC Championships before concluding her season with a sixth place in the 2A state meet.

Marley Seaborn, Harford Tech, sophomore: She was the No. 2 finisher for Tech in the 1A state meet. Placing18th, she helped hold off Northern Garrett County by three points to cinch the runner-up team trophy. She was also sixth in the Harford Invitational, ninth in the Maryland Track and Trail, 15th in the UCBAC, and sixth in 1A East Regional.

Maddie Wassin, John Carroll, junior: One of the top runners in the IAAM, she finished second in the IAAM B Conference Championships and third in the Maryland XC Invitational (in 19:39, 5000 meters). Coach Rob Torres, describes her as one of the best he’s ever coached: “she’d be in John Carroll’s all-time top seven from my 22 years here.”

Brielle Whitworth, Edgewood, junior: Won three races this season including the tough 3A North Region meet in a personal best of 19:35 for 5,000 meters. Placed eighth in the state meet in 19:42 (3 miles). She was also second in Chesapeake Division meet, fourth in the UCBAC, eighth in the 3A state meet, and 10th in Gunpowder North Meet.

All-Aegis Cross Country – 1

First team boys

Eryk Bender, Fallston, junior: Among Harford boys, he had the fastest time in the state meet, running 17:15 and placing 16th in Class 2A. He placed second in the Spiked Shoe Invitational, third in the Harford Invitational, third in the 2A East Region meet and sixth in the UCBAC meet.

Robert Davis, Havre de Grace sophomore: He won the Susquehanna Division Championship with an 11-second lead in 17:33, a 5,000-meter PR. He placed second in the 1A East Regional and was eighth in both the Harford Invitational and Small Schools Division of the Bull Run.

Evan DeVoe, John Carroll, junior: He was the No. 2 finisher for John Carroll in all but the finale, in which he led the team to the B Conference title with a second-place finish.

Nicholas Kirkland, C. Milton Wright, senior: He led the Mustangs to the UCBAC championship with a third-place finish in 16:10. He was fourth in the Chesapeake Division meet and fifth in the 2A East Regional. He clocked a 17:13 personal best for 5,000 meters in placing 29th in the Maryland XC Invitational.

Thomas McNutt, C. Milton Wright, senior: His 14th place finish in a personal best 16:55 in the UCBAC was decisive in cinching the championship for the Mustangs by just two points over Bel Air. In the state meet, he was the No. 2 finisher for the team in 43rd place.

Chris Novak, Patterson Mill, sophomore: The 1A East Region champion, he placed third in the Susquehanna Division meet, fourth in the Harford Invitational, eighth in the UCBAC in a 3-mile PR of 16:30, and eighth in the 1A state meet.

Evan Oldewurtel, Edgewood sophomore: He improved his 3-mile best by almost two minutes in this, his second season of cross country. His midseason performance surge carried him to a fifth-place finish in the UCBAC and a 3-mile personal best of 16:07 in the Chesapeake Division meet.

James Ortt, North Harford, senior: Unleashed a powerful kick for a come-from-behind second-place finish in the UCBAC Championship race in 16:09. He also placed fifth in the Harford Invitational, fifth in the Chesapeake Division, 15th in the 2A East Region meet, and 38th in the state meet in 17:52, fifth best time by a Harford boy in the state meet.

Austin Parry, North Harford, senior: He led the Hawks with a sixth-place finish in the 2A East Regional, cinching a third-place team finish to qualify for the state meet. His best 3 mile was 16:42 in the UCBAC. He was sixth in the Harford Invitational, seventh in the Chesapeake Division, and 11th in the UCBAC.

Luke Puhalla, C. Milton Wright, junior: He ran his personal best 3 mile, 16:52, in placing ninth in the Chesapeake Division meet. He next finished 13th in the UCBAC meet to help the Mustangs win the team title. He placed ninth in the 2A East Region meet, and 49th in the state meet.

Nicholas Spangler, Fallston, sophomore: A reliable performer for the Cougars, he placed seventh in the UCBAC with a 3-mile PR of 16:23, ninth in the Harford Invitational, fourth in the Spiked Shoe, and fourth in the 2A East Region meet in a 5,000-meter best of 17:43.

Will Root, John Carroll, junior: He was the Patriots’ top runner in two of their four meets. He finished 22nd in the Maryland XC Invitational in 17:02 (5,000 meters) and eighth in the MIAA B Conference meet, which John Carroll won.

Darian Walters, Edgewood, junior: He won two races and finished second in two this season. He placed fourth in the UCBAC meet, just 1 second out of second place, and was ninth in the 3A North Region meet. He raced to a 3-mile PR of 16:06 in placing second in the Chesapeake Division Championship. In the 3A state meet, he finished 51st.

Logan Weaver, Bel Air, senior: Perhaps the most improved runner this season, he won six of his 10 races, including the UCBAC, Harford Invitational, and Chesapeake Division meet. His 3-mile best was 16:01 for an improvement of almost 4 minutes relative to his best of 2022. He placed 11th in the 3A North Region meet in 17:29 (5,000 meters), and 36th in the 3A state meet.
