'Bonkers': CNN host stunned by Alina Habba's pressure campaign on Brett Kavanaugh
CNN host Phil Mattingly found himself stunned after watching a video of Trump lawyer Alina Habba publicly pressuring Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to side with her client during a Fox News appearance.
During an interview on Fox News Thursday, Habba suggested Kavauagh would "step up" for former President Donald Trump given how Trump stuck with him even while he faced allegations of past sexual misconduct.
"You know, people like Kavanaugh, who the president fought for, who the president went through hell to get into place," Habba said.
Mattingly then pictured what would have happened if a lawyer representing a Democrat had said something similar about a Democratic-appointed judge.

"If a Democrat said that about the Justice Department or Merrick Garland or fill-in-the-blank here, there would be an absolute implosion," he said. "That's bonkers."
Panelist John Avlon concurred and was struck by the brazenness of Habba's appeal.
"She's saying the quiet part out loud," he remarked.
"She's his lawyer!" exclaimed Mattingly.
"She's saying that Brett Kavanaugh will step up and side with the president because he appointed him," Avlon continued. "That goes against every basic idea of law and independence of the judiciary. And frankly, it puts Kavanaugh in a bit of a box."
