Who are George Knight’s parents on EastEnders? Everything we know about the family so far
GEORGE Knight has been faced with the biggest shock of his life on EastEnders after his true origins were revealed.
In shocking scenes on the BBC soap opera, the character, played by Colin Salmon, discovered that his parents has been paid to take him in as a baby via a practise known as farming. It has left fans with a wealth of questions about his parents and where he comes from as he attempts to get to the bottom of what occurred all those years ago.
Who are George Knight’s parents in EastEnders?
George Knight is the adoptive son of Gloria and Eddie Knight.
He had been adopted by the pair as a baby in the late 1960s.
Gloria is played by actress Elizabeth Counsell whilst her husband Eddie is played by Christopher Fairbank.
The couple made a shock appearance at The Vic on New Year’s Eve to surprise George but were quickly left making a shocking revelation.
Gloria and Eddie soon confessed that they didn’t want to keep any secrets from George and wanted to give him the truth about his upbringing in order to avoid him discovering what had happened after they passed away.
During a heated conversation, Gloria revealed that George was chosen by the pair after they saw an advert in a newspaper advertising him for a new home.
This was part of an abolished practise known as baby farming.
Those families that took them in were then paid an amount of money to bring them up.
It was most common with black children and occurred regularly during the 1960s and 1970s.
What is George Knight’s true heritage?
Having been adopted by two white parents, George had been led to believe that he was of a Jamaican heritage all of his life.
It had seen him attempt to submerge himself in Jamaican culture as a teen growing up as well as mixing with the local Jamaican community in his area.
However, it appears that George may have been lied to during his upbringing.
Having confided in Cindy Beale about what he had discovered, the pair researched the baby farming practise to discover that it was largely children of African origin who were farmed.
George questioned this as he had never been told of any African connection but he soon began to piece together that his life may have been a lie.
He heartbreakingly recalled a conversation with his father who instructed him to not listen to Jamaican music as a teen.
Despite George professing that it was ‘his’ music, Eddie insisted it was not.
George had originally believed it to have been a throw away comment but then admitted that his dad may actually have been implying something about his true background and identity.
What have EastEnders said about the plot?
Reflecting on the upcoming plot, EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw said: “EastEnders has a rich history of telling challenging yet truthful stories which reflect past and present events.
“George Knight’s storyline will force him to question the identity his parents gave him from childhood as he discovers the true means by which he was adopted.
“It was imperative that we worked with experts and people with lived experience of farming to ensure the storyline is handled as sensitively and as accurately as possible.”
Is George Knight linked to Aunt Babe?
Questions have been raised regarding George’s link to Carter family member Aunt Babe.
The soap icon first appeared on the show in 2014 and viewers have now made a potential link between George’s family and Aunt Babe (Annette Badland).
They recalled how Babe had been involved with baby farming in the past and believe it’s plausible she was somehow involved in George’s transaction.
One viewer wrote on X: “omg wait this is such a good way to bring aunt babe back.”
Another said: “Need her back asap.”
A third wrote: “Oh I hope she’s coming back.”
Babe was last seen being slung out of the Queen Vic after is was discovered she left her sister Sylvie to die.
