Man who faked death to avoid rape charges finally extradited to the US
Fugitive Nicholas Rossi has been extradited from Scotland to the US following a long legal battle.
He has been forced back following sex assault allegations.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: ‘We assisted partner agencies with the extradition of a 36-year-old man.’
It follows a two-year saga where Rossi argued he was a victim of mistaken identity and claimed to be an Irish orphan called Arthur Knight.
High Court judges quashed Rossi’s appeal against extradition in December.
US law enforcement claim Rossi is a fugitive who faked his own death and came to the UK to escape.
He is wanted by the authorities in Utah for the alleged rape of a woman in the state in 2008.
Rossi first came to the attention of authorities when he fell ill with Covid in Glasgow in December 2021.
He was arrested after his tattoos and fingerprints matched National Crime Agency documents.
Rossi previously told the High Court he had been ill-served by legal representatives and this led to him losing his earlier court case.
