Southampton boss Russell Martin is of the view that it might prove costly for the Saints if they turn down a big money offer for Che Adams with only six months left on his contract.

The 27-year-old striker was the centre of attention for several Premier League outfits last summer, but Southampton refused to let him go.

Adams’ contract with Southampton is set to expire at the end of June and the forward has shown no interest in extending his stay with the St. Mary’s outfit.

The Southampton star has scored six times in 22 league games for Martin’s side this season and the Saints boss stated that Adams’ contract situation is up to the player and the club hierarchy to resolve.

And he is of the opinion that it might cost Southampton if they turn down a big offer for Adams in the ongoing window, as they stand to lose the player on a free transfer next summer.

“If someone offers good money for him with six months left then turning that down can be very expensive”, Martin said at a press conference.

“It’s down to the ownership group and Che himself so I let them get on with it.

Adams has featured in 168 games for Southampton so far in his career, netting 37 goals and 17 assists and it remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future for the Scottish international.
