India, which is also seeing a slight uptick in Covid cases, recorded 761 new cases on Friday and 12 deaths due to the viral disease. The number of active Covid-19 cases in the country came down marginally to 4,334 from 4,423 on Thursday. The JN.1 subvariant has become the dominant Covid-19 variant in India, accounting for more than 60% of the coronavirus cases in the country, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
