It was just about calm at 0800 this morning, so the ocean surface was smooth but, as you can see, between the 1.85 m high and the 1.5 m, 7-second S-SSE wind swell, it was maybe ankle to knee high at Dee Why. The forecast tells us the swell will weaken across the day and that tomorrow could be no better. However there is a chance of a little uptick into the knee to waist-high range from Friday as the swell regime goes back to the east. For now though, it’s pretty much only good for paddling.

A trough of low pressure extending from a low pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is slow-moving along the north coast. The trough will shift to the south during the latter part of the week while weakening as a ridge develops in the state’s northeast. Then another trough looks set to brush the coast during the weekend, with a fresh southerly wind change in the wake.
