Suspected militants kill 2 police officers gauding polio workers in Northwest Pakistan
Two police officers protecting a polio vaccination team were killed, and two more were injured in an attack on the vaccination campaign In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Tuesday.
While protecting the polio team, armed men attacked the police squad, leading to a swift police response and an exchange of fire. One attacker was wounded and sought refuge in a nearby house.
During the pursuit of the attackers, two police officers, Fiazuddin and Sikander Khan, entered the house where the wounded attacker had taken shelter. The attacker killed them inside the premises, as reported by the Pakistani media.
Police sources report that a significant police force has surrounded the house where the injured attacker is holed up.
The two injured police officers have been transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
This incident occurred just a day after a blast near a police van in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district, resulting in the killing of five policemen and injuries to 27 people.
According to a senior government official in Bajaur, an improvised explosive device targeted a police truck carrying approximately 25 policemen assigned to anti-polio drive duties.
The polio vaccination campaign in the area was suspended due to the blast, and rescue teams in Mohmand and Lower Dir districts were placed on alert. The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.
