Ishan Kishan’s Mental Fatigue Excuse Shattered by Dubai Party Scenes
Ishan Kishan expressed dissatisfaction and frustration for consistently sitting on the bench despite making the most of opportunities in all formats, particularly ODIs and T20Is.
Aakash Chopra, former India opener, raised concerns about Kishan’s absence in the T20I series against Afghanistan, questioning his availability. However, an Indian Express report clarified that Kishan, who left South Africa before the Test series due to a family emergency, was available for selection but was dropped without reasons provided by BCCI. Speculation suggests disciplinary issues might be the cause.
Despite being seen training in Vadodara, confirming fitness and mental well-being, Kishan remained excluded. According to the report, Kishan was discontented about being benched despite capitalizing on opportunities. He had been requesting a break since the ODI World Cup last year, but it was not granted.
Kishan was part of the T20I squad against Australia and sought a break from the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour but was denied. The situation escalated when KL Rahul was preferred over him as a specialist keeper in the Test squad. Citing mental fatigue and family commitments, Kishan withdrew from the Test squad, but instead of returning home, he went to Dubai and was seen partying.
While some criticize his choice of spending time away, others argue that he has the right to decide where he wants to be during his break. Kishan’s inconsistent role as a backup opener or specialist keeper and not being the first choice in any format may have affected his mentality.
Despite limited opportunities, Kishan has proven himself with a double century in an ODI against Bangladesh and notable performances in T20Is. However, uncertainties loom over his inclusion in the upcoming series against England starting January 25.
