Lauren Boebert's ex-husband arrested on weapons and assault charges
Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-CO) ex-husband was arrested on multiple charges involving firearms and assault.
The charges against Jayson Boebert came three days after he called the police on the congresswoman following a physical altercation outside a Colorado restaurant, where he claimed his former wife had repeatedly hit him in the face, reported CBS News.
Court records show Jayson Boebert was arrested Tuesday on six charges, including prohibited use of weapons, third-degree assault, and obstructing a peace officer.
He was booked into Garfield County Jail and released on $2,500 bond.
Lauren Boebert barely won re-election last year Colorado's 3rd district and recently announced she would run instead in another district more favorable to Republicans, and she claimed after this weekend's incident with her former husband was "another reason I'm moving."
The long-married couple with four children closed the restaurant they owned together last year and divorced, and the lawmaker and another man were kicked out of a Denver theater during a musical adaptation of Beetlejuice for vaping and engaging in lewd behavior that was caught on security video.
Jayson Boebert was previously arrested in January 2004 for allegedly exposing his genitals to two women at a bowling alley, and he pleaded guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure and was sentenced to four days in jail.
The following month he was booked on a domestic violence charge against his future wife, who was 17 years old at the time, and later sentenced to seven days in jail.
Lauren Boebert was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and underage drinking charges in May 2004 after an incident at her future husband's home in which she scratched his face and caused damage to his residence.
The couple married the following year.
The congresswoman has been charged several other times over the years, most recently in September 2016, when she was slapped with careless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle after rolling her truck into a ditch.
She later pleaded guilty to the unsafe vehicle charge and paid $123.50 in fines and court costs.
