‘Thought Team Has Moved On’: Ex-Cricketer opines about Rohit and Virat’s T20I comeback
The teams will play each other in the second T20I in Indore. Deep Dasgupta, a former wicket-keeper for the Indian cricket team, expressed his amazement at Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s comeback for the next Twenty20 International Series against Afghanistan. When India met England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022, in November of that year, Rohit and Virat played their last Twenty20 international match. Since then, they have given the longer forms more importance, but their comeback for the Afghanistan series offered a glimpse into what the team management may have in mind for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The teams will play each other in the second T20I in Indore. In a recent interview, Dasgupta stated that he believed the squad had progressed in the T20 format and mentioned that the primary criticism levelled at the senior hitters was their ‘lack of desire’.

“I thought that the team has moved on in the T20I format. I am a little surprised. But the way that Rohit Sharma has played in the 50 over World Cup was great. The main criticism with the senior India players was the lack of intent in the T20 format,” Dasgupta told Star Sports.
The teams will play each other in the second T20I in Indore. The former cricket player did, however, quickly note that spinners could find the West Indies conditions advantageous in the 2024 T20 World Cup. In that case, a batter like Virat Kohli’s expertise may be very helpful in navigating the slow going circumstances.
“Obviously we saw that with Rohit and with Virat we have to keep in mind what will be the pitches that we might get in West Indies. Are we expecting 180-200 pitches or something around 160s,” he added.
