‘Cannot abide it!’ rage Coronation Street fans as they blast soap bosses for ‘utterly ridiculous’ characters
CORONATION Street fans have been left raging as they blasted two ‘utterly ridiculous’ characters.
Viewers of the long-running ITV soap have taken aim at two lead stars of the show.
Posting on social media, fans called out Mary Taylor and Gemma Winter’s characters.
Mary, who is played by Patti Clare, first arrived on the cobbles in 2008.
She’s known for her eccentric ways and is seen by bosses as the character who provides comic relief to viewers.
Meanwhile, Gemma Winter, who is portrayed by Dolly-Rose Campbell, is another ditzy character.
The barmaid and mother-of-five is married to Chesney Brown and is currently dealing with her brother Paul’s worsening MND diagnosis.
Writing on a web forum, one fan described Gemma as a “caricature” and complained she’s “always yelling”.
Another said: “She is utterly ridiculous and I cannot abide her.”
As fan discussion turned to Mary, one fan blasted: “I don’t like Mary. She’s become a parody character and she gets on my nerves.”
A second posted: “They need to axe her soon, useless character.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX.
