Former New Haven police officer sentenced to prison for deadly crash in Las Vegas
A former New Haven police officer has been sentenced to prison in connection with a crash in Las Vegas that killed a fellow officer in 2021, according to media reports.
Robert Ferraro faced sentencing Tuesday in Clark County Court where a judge ordered he serve two to five years in prison on a charge of driving under the influence causing death, local TV station 8NewsNow reports. The former police officer pleaded guilty in June to the charge which carried a sentence of anywhere between two and 20 years, his attorney previously told The Courant.
In exchange for his plea, one count of reckless driving was dropped.

On Sept. 17, 2021, Ferraro was driving a Rolls Royce at a high rate of speed just before 4 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and left the road, striking a Ford Mustang parked in a private driveway, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Occupants of the Rolls Royce included New Haven police officers Joshua Castellano, Matthew Borges and John Truhart as well as two women from Texas, authorities said.
The collision caused the Rolls Royce to flip over, ejecting Castellano from the vehicle, police said. Castellano was taken to an area hospital where he died, according to authorities.
Borges and Truhart suffered minor injuries. The two women in the vehicle were not seriously injured, according to Las Vegas police.
Authorities said Ferraro showed signs of impairment at the scene and refused to take field sobriety tests. He was initially placed on paid administrative leave before New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said in November that Ferraro had resigned from the department.
