ABC announces squad for ICC U19 men’s Cricket World Cup 2024
The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Selection Committee has finalized the Afghanistan squad for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, beginning on January 19 in South Africa.
Naseer Khan, the regular skipper of Afghanistan Future Stars, is expected to recover in time and will lead the team, with Numan Shah as his deputy.
Top-order batter Ali Ahmad Nasar has returned to the squad after missing the ACC U19 Men’s Asia Cup 2024. Additionally, opening batter Hassan Eisakhil, right-arm leg-spinner Arab Gul Momand, and right-arm fast bowler Zahid Afghan are part of the squad after participating in the Youth Tri-Series in Johannesburg last week.
Naseeb Khan, the ACB CEO, emphasized the team’s preparation and expressed optimism for their performance, aiming to make the nation proud.
The squad includes players like Naseer Khan (Captain), Numan Shah (Vice Captain and Wicket-Keeper), Hassan Eisakhil, and others, forming a promising lineup.
Afghanistan is placed in Pool D of the competition alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal. Their first match is against Pakistan on Saturday, January 20, at the Buffalo Park Cricket Ground in East London.
Before entering the main draw, Afghanistan will have warm-up matches against England and South Africa on January 14 and 16, respectively. Additionally, Super Cola Beverages Manufacturing Company has secured sponsorship rights for the Afghanistan U19 National Team in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
