Mum shares how she saved herself £7,000 in a year on groceries & helped family dinners become an ‘enjoyable experience’
A SAVVY mum has shared the clever way she cut her food bill down by almost £8,000 in a year.
Hannah decided to try “freezer meal prep” for 365 days, and took to Instagram to share a Reel showing what happened.
“I cut our grocery spend by 50 per cent,” she said.
“I used to spend so much on groceries, take out, and waste so much food, not really knowing how to save.
“With strategic meal prep and planning, we saved a whopping $10,000 (£7,840) in a year by cutting monthly grocery spend by over $800 (£627).”
As well as saving herself loads of money, Hannah also managed to cut down her trips to the supermarket.
“My weeks used to include multiple, last-minute trips to the store,” she said.
“Now, with meals ready in the freezer, those frantic grocery runs are history.
“Less stress and more time!”
In addition, family dinner became an “enjoyable experience”.
“Dinner time used to be a source of daily stress and indecision,” she said.
“Freezer meal prep turned it into an enjoyable, stress-free experience.
“I actually look forward to our family meals now!”
People were quick to comment on the Reel, with one writing: “This is exactly what I do and it helps so much!”
“I’m all in to try something to help with dinner!!!!” another admitted.
“Planning and executing!!”
“I’d like to learn while I’m on mat leave so when I go bk to work dinner will be easy with three kids and the fella can easily sort it,” a third said.
“Wow, this is definitely inspiring,” someone else praised.
Recipes Hannah preps in advance include shredded Mexican beef, Tex Mex chicken, split pea soup, Tandoori chicken and fajitas.
In another Reel, Hannah explained that the reason she decided to try freezer meal prep is because “of the need to budget and save money”.
“We had debt, kids and daily stress over the big picture,” she added.
She also reduces the stress involved in the process by splitting it into three stages – one day is for planning and writing a grocery list, one day for shopping and another day for prepping.
