Experts slugfest: Our 2023 Emmy Award winners predictions (finally)
At long last, they’re here: the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. Delayed due to the dual strikes last year, the Emmys will finally take place on Monday, aka Martin Luther King Day, more than halfway into the 2023-24 Emmy cycle. Great stuff all around. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their winner predictions.
You may have missed it, but the Golden Globes weren’t the only awards show over the weekend. The Creative Arts Emmys also took place and “The Last of Us” ruled with eight wins. “Succession,” the reigning Best Drama Series champ, walked away with zero wins, but that doesn’t mean its series chances have plummeted. We discuss why it’s still frontrunner to take home its third series prize — and will at the very least win the same categories it won for Season 3 — but probably won’t sweep down the ballot. Among “The Last of Us'” Creative Arts victories was dual guest wins for Nick Offerman and Storm Reid. Does that bode well for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the lead races?

On the comedy side, “The Bear” took home four Creative Arts Emmys, including the all-important casting prize. Two-time reigning champ “Ted Lasso” snagged two awards (an improvement over last year’s zero at Creative Arts). The series race is for sure coming down to these two shows, so will voters — reminder that voting ending in August — go with their ol’ fave, a show they gave more nominations to than ever before, or the new hot thing on the block that’s not exactly a laugh-out-loud riot?
Elsewhere, we discuss whether “Beef” can add any supporting wins to its expected haul and more.
