Report: Huge boost as injured Spurs star has been back in full training this week
The merry-go-round of hamstring injuries at Tottenham Hotspur continues, but this week there is good news regarding Cristian Romero, who has been back in full training and could even be ready to return to the team this weekend.
Romero was replaced at half-time during the 2-1 win over Everton last month, and was spotted with ice on his legs on the Spurs bench. It was later revealed he had pulled his hamstring, with Ange Postecoglou stating the Argentine defender would be out for up to five weeks (Football.London).
That should have kept Romero out of action until the end of January, at the earliest. Just a week ago, Postecoglou confirmed his vice-captain was in the ‘early stages’ of his recovery from the hamstring issue (Football.London).
When is Cristian Romero back from injury?
However, this week it was suggested that Romero was closer to a return than initially expected, with a report from The Athletic claiming the 25-year-old was ‘pushing to be involved’ in the upcoming fixture against Manchester United on January 14.
Now, the latest from The Standard reveals Romero is “back in full training” following his injury, and the centre-half is thought to be “in contention” for this weekend’s trip to Old Trafford.
Spurs will likely have Micky van de Ven back in the starting line-up after recovering from his own hamstring issue, and there is a good chance Postecoglou will also be able to select new signing Radu Dragusin, who is close to completing his move to North London.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can’t believe Ange might possibly have the luxury of choosing from three first-team centre-backs this weekend, rather than using full-backs to fill in. I don’t think Romero should start, given he is only just back from injury, but to have him among the squad, even, is a huge boost.
