Under the ominous sky on a farm in southern Israel, the occasional sounds of artillery shells heading towards Gaza are muffled by the voices of Israelis communicating with hostages on the other side of the border. Family members of those taken during Hamas's attack on October 7 set up large speakers connected to a microphone in Nirim, a kibbutz near the Gaza Strip.
