Converse and Feng Chen Wang Collaborate to Reintroduce the Chuck 70 Sneaker

Converse has teamed up with Feng Chen Wang on an exciting new collection that reworks the brand’s best-selling Chuck 70 sneaker.

Wang, the Chinese-born and London-based menswear designer known for her bold conceptual designs worked with Converse to craft a 2-in-1 Ox cut version of the brand’s traditional low-top sneaker. The shoe, available in two colorways, is adorned with several points of distressed detailing that includes exposed stitching, cut marks and fraying.

The concept behind the singular shoe originated over five years ago when Wang presented her vision of the canvas sneaker during her spring 2019 menswear show during New York Fashion Week. This shoe was a carefully deconstructed and delicately reassembled Chuck 70 concept shoe, complete with hand-painted details.

Based on the success of that earlier model and the consumer-driven demand for more, Wang has collaborated once again with the popular American lifestyle brand on the Chuck 70 2-in-1. According to Wang, “the bold concept converges form and style in a singular approach.” Similar to her previous interpretation of Converse’s design, the silhouette is “crafted with ‘two’ in mind.”

The shoe, which features a paired canvas overlay, double-layered foxing tape and a modified outsole, is spliced into four quadrants. This construction detail, aside from its interesting aesthetic factor, provides the wearer with an enhanced “flex” in their step while they stride in within the highly structured build.   

The collection will debut in two colorways globally on Feb. 6 on Converse.com and select global retailers.
