I got rubbish emptied from my brown wheelie bin after telling council it ‘identifies’ as green
A CHEEKY dad labelled his brown wheelie bin non-BINary to persuade collectors to take extra bags of rubbish.
Richard Imber, 47, put additional household waste in the bin — normally only for garden clippings.
But he slipped a light-hearted message into a plastic wallet telling the waste crew it identified as a green bin — usually for household waste.
And when Richard returned home, he found his ruse had worked.
He said: “When I went to bring the bins in and saw it worked, it felt great.”
Tanker driver Richard said the bags of extra rubbish had been piling up at his home in Corringham, Essex.
He said: “The general waste collection is every week but when there’s five people living in a house, the rubbish starts to build up.
“We had to put the rubbish bags in the garage. The worry is that it attracts vermin.”
But he hoped by making a little joke, the council crew would see the funny side and empty the brown bin anyway.
His note stuck to the lid read: “I am non BIN ary! Today, I identify as a Green bin! Please empty me!!! :o).”
His tactic also went down well with social media users.
One wrote: “I’m non-binary and that’s the funniest thing I have seen this year.”
But another accused him of “disparaging the trans community”.
