I’ll let you in on a nail salon secret – some manicurists re-use tools, my trick will make sure they’re always clean
A DENTAL hygienist has shared a terrifying insight into the sanitary practices of nail salons.
She warned that your nail tech could be reusing tools without you realizing,
This habit could spread dirt and germs and even lead to infections and toenail fungus.
Jessica (@jessica_marierdhap) shares videos about wellness and health with her 14,000 followers.
In a recent clip, she revealed how to tell if your manicurist is cleaning their tools or not.
She held a nail file in a medical package up to the camera to demonstrate to her viewers.
“You’d think that if the nail tools are in this medical package, it’s sterilized, right? Wrong,” she said.
Pointing to a colored dot on the upper right corner of the package, she said that if the dot is red, that means it hasn’t been sterilized.
“The red dot means it’s dirty,” she said.
The dot on the packaging changes color after being run through a sterilization machine.
If the tools in the package have been sterilized, the dots turn black.
“Black means clean, red means dirty,” Jessica said.
“If you see this while you’re getting your nails done, run.”
The dental hygienist said that she had caught multiple of her local nail salons reusing clippers and files without cleaning them first.
She encouraged her viewers to ensure their nail salon had sanitary practices, and her viewers agreed.
“Most nail places do this! I always call them out, to the point I haven’t had my nails done for over 3 years,” wrote one commenter.
“Thank you for this, I got a pedicure 2 weeks ago and ended up getting a nasty toe infection!” said another.
“I used to work in the dental field and can confirm that the sterilization turns the dots black when clean! Be safe!” confirmed one viewer.
