Journalist thinks Spurs and West Ham would pay £30m-£40m for midfielder
The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has said that the Chelsea hierarchy might be prepared to sell Conor Gallagher to Tottenham Hotspur for just £40m.
Tottenham have had an excellent start to the January transfer window, addressing two key areas with top-quality additions in the form of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.
While Ange Postecoglou will hope that Werner will provide extra firepower upfront, particularly in the absence of Son Heung-min, Dragusin will add some much-needed depth to Tottenham’s backline.
It was reported by The Independent on Wednesday that Spurs are now ready to turn their attention towards signing a midfielder, with Gallagher still alleged to be at the top of the North London club’s wishlist.
The report added that Chelsea would be willing to sell the 23-year-old for the right price and suggested that an offer of £50m would be enough to take the England international away from Stamford Bridge.
Spurs and West Ham want Conor Gallagher
Kilpatrick believes that the Blues hierarchy might even be prepared to cash in on their academy graduate for £40m, even though that is not something Mauricio Pochettino would want.
The journalist told Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast: “It will be interesting to see what happens with Gallagher this month. Spurs and possibly West Ham would pay £30m or £40m for him.
“I’m sure the Chelsea owners would like that, but I think Pochettino would hate that, so keep an eye on that one.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Tottenham have signed Dragusin and Werner relatively cheaply, gives them the means to spend a decent amount on a number eight.
It has been quite clear for a while that Gallagher is the player that Postecoglou wants more than anyone and one would expect Spurs to test the waters with an offer or two for the Chelsea star.
