Make your perfume last all day with skin expert’s ‘quick and easy’ hack that costs pennies
WHETHER you got your favourite designer scent for Christmas or in the January sales, all of us want to make the most of our perfumes.
If your perfume disappears within five minutes, there is an easy way to help it last longer using a beauty essential.
Of course, this nifty life hack was first shared on Tiktok.
Like many dermatologists, Leah Shin had been keen to share the tips and tricks she’d learnt during her training.
In amongst the video urging viewers to use sunscreen and eat antioxidant rich foods, the young doctor revealed a fool proof way to make her perfume last all day.
Rather than just spraying it on your pulse points, the dermatologist explained that she applied a thin layer of Aquaphor ointment to her skin before having a quick spritz.
Though it sounds counter intuitive, this works because the healing balm will stop the alcohol from drying out your skin meaning it will last longer.
“It’s quick, easy and will help you get more life out of your perfume/cologne,” she explained to fans.
With most designer scent costing over £50, you can’t afford not to use this hack – especially as a 50g tub of Aquaphor is less than £10 on Amazon and it has a variety of uses.
Alternatively you can also use Vaseline and other non-scented moisturisers for this hack, meaning you can get better performing perfume from as little as £1.80.
If you haven’t already done the maths, that is less than 6p per day over the course of a month.
Dabbing a little moisturiser isn’t the only way to help you stay smelling fresh all day long though.
For those heading back into the work this week, there is several free ways to smell incredible without lugging the bottle in the office.
Instead, you can simply add a few drops of your favourite perfume to an unscented moisturiser and keep a small tub of this in your handbag.
This hack is great if you have hoarding the last few drops of your designer scent, as you can create a custom lotion and finally recycle the old bottle.
Matching scents with similar notes is also an easy way to help your favourite perfumes smell great all day long, with brand often listing various fragrances in perfumes.
With many designer perfumes sets on sale right now, you might also be able to pick up a matching lotion – to help give your scent that extra boost before work.
Finally, it’s all about location, location, location.
Typically, you might store perfumes on a bedside table or in your bathroom – especially if they come in a beautiful glass bottle.
Whilst this makes a stunning design feature, these scents can break down due to fluctuating temperature and humidity.
Instead, beauty experts will advise you to keep your signature scent in a cool, dark place to stop this from happening.
Moving your perfume into a vintage bottle is also a big no no, as the air can alter the chemical makeup of perfume and reducing its strength.
Thankfully, you now know these useful tips and trick to keep you smelling sensational.
