Two ISIS members trained in Afghanistan arrested in Pakistan
Pakistani media, citing the country’s counter-terrorism agency, has reported the arrest of two ISIS members who were planning suicide attacks in Peshawar.
According to Express Tribune, the two suicide bombers, both affiliated with the ISIS Khorasan branch and trained in Afghanistan, were apprehended on Friday, January 12.
Reports indicate that these two suicide bombers were planning to target Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, and Asfandyar Wali Khan, the leader of the Awami National Party in Pakistan.
Express Tribune, citing Jamal Hussain Laiqat, a senior official in Pakistan’s counter-terrorism agency, has reported that these two suicide bombers were arrested in Peshawar, and explosives including two suicide vests, three hand grenades, and a quantity of explosive material were seized from them.
According to his statement, these two ISIS members had received training in the Paktia province of Afghanistan and were preparing for suicide attacks.
So far, the Taliban officials have not commented on the matter.
It is worth mentioning that according to findings from the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, following the rise of the Taliban regime, the rate of suicide attacks in Pakistan has increased by 93 per cent.
