‘I know him!’ Huge noughties pop star ‘revealed’ as The Masked Singer’s Cricket as Olly Murs makes shock claim
THE Masked Singer’s guest judge Olly Murs claimed he sussed Cricket tonight after insisting “I know him!”
The wacky show returned with Cricket, Big Foot, Maypole and Rat performing for the judges.
Olly, 39, joined the panel consisting of Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross tonight as Rita Ora was forced to skip the ITV show.
He listened as Cricket performed Rhythm of the Night, and told viewers he knew exactly who was behind the green insect.
He said: “I know that voice, he sang at my friend’s wedding!”
Taking to social media to give their verdicts, some fans agreed with Olly that the Cricket is in fact, R&B singer Lemar.
They noted that another clue in Cricket’s performance “gave it away”.
One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “A giant mouse is called a Lemur.”
Another said: “”I’m with Olly! Me and my sister were saying how much the voice sounds like Lemar. It’s a vocal hug when he sings. Plus cricket connection could be the Lemar Cricket Club in Frankfurt, cheers.”
Most people don’t remember that Lemar actually competed in BBC’s answer to Pop Idol, Fame Academy.
He came third in the competition, behind runner-up Sinead Quinn and winner David Sneddon.
Lemar, now 44, had great success following the show, releasing a total of six albums and winning a host of Brit and MOBO awards.
His most memorable tracks include party classic 50/50 and more sombre ballad If There’s Any Justice.
In 2008 the popular singer became a father for the first time, when his partner Charmaine Powell gave birth to a baby girl named Nyiema Obika.
They later had a second child named Uriah Obika.
These days Lemar fans will be pleased to hear that he is still making music.
