I turned my normal UK garage into a bedroom with en suite using Ikea goodies – my mate’s been living there for 6 months
A SAVVY mum has shared how she transformed her garage into a tiny flat that a family member has been living in for the past six months.
Agnes Mann shared her garage conversion journey via a video posted to her YouTube channel @agnesmann.
The mum often uses the channel to document her travels abroad and her videos are clearly very popular with social media users as she has amassed 34,000 followers on the video sharing app.
In the video, Agnes explained that she decided to convert her garage into a living space as a family member moved in to her house that needed their own space.
To convert the garage, builders removed the garage door, and bricked up half of it, creating a small space for a window.
They also added in a door to create an ensuite bathroom.
The space has now been completely transformed and it’s hard to believe that it used to be a dingy garage.
The bathroom is tiled with black and white flooring from Wickes and the walls are covered with matte grey tiling.
There is also a large shower and a vanity cabinet in the small room.
The main room is 5.5m by 2.5m, but the small space is packed full with all of the essentials needed for comfortable living.
It has a small kitchenette with a microwave, a kettle, a fridge and kitchen cabinets.
Agnes said the kitchen units cost £1,300 from Wren.
It also has a bed from Amazon, a desk and small wardrobe from Ikea and some fold up chairs from Costco.
Agnes explained that she did not need to get planning permission to covert the garage but that they had to get their proposals reviewed by a building inspector.
She said that the project took just three months to complete.
“I’m really happy with the finishing touches and the standard that it’s been completed to”, she said.
Agnes said that the total cost of the project was just under £25,000.
She revealed that in the future she may decide to rent out the liveable space via AirBnB.
The video has clearly left many impressed, as it has racked up an impressive 54,000 views.
YouTube users raced to the video’s comments to share their thoughts on the garage conversion.
One user said: “This is an adorable addition to your home. Lovely work.”
Another user added: “You’ve done a great job!
“I’m thinking of converting my garage into a separate studio apartment for my 18 year old, so It was really good to see how you’ve done this and the cost.”
