COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The South Colonie Central School District will be hosting its regional KidWind Challenge on March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will be making their project presentations to judges at Sand Creek Middle School.

The KidWind Challenge is the industry-leading renewable energy design and construction student competition that encourages renewable energy education in the classroom. Students are invited to build, showcase, and test wind turbines.

Students from grades four to 12 can participate in the South Colonie KidWind event. There will be prizes awarded to the middle school division for grades four through eight and to the high school division for grades nine through 12. Each turbine is to be tested twice, with the highest score being accepted.

“This presents a fantastic opportunity for students to collaborate,” said Dr. David Perry, superintendent of schools. “We recognize the pivotal role STEM education plays in fostering critical thinking and innovation and we are dedicated to ensuring students continue to have access to these valuable opportunities.”

Students can register for the event online. There is no limit to the number of teams that can participate.
