Dry, mild weather returns to Portland area Tuesday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A pause in the rain arrives Tuesday as temperatures warm across the greater Portland-Vancouver area.
Afternoon highs are expected to remain above average for January as the mercury climbs into the low- to mid-50s for some Tuesday. This comes as rain showers slow across the region. The pause in rain could bring a few stray rays of sunshine to parts of Oregon and Washington by the afternoon.
This brief moment of dry weather isn't long-lasting. Another round of rain arrives early Wednesday morning. This round of rain will keep the winds out of the south, keeping them warmer than normal. Rain accumulation from Tuesday to Wednesday will near an inch in some places.
Portland's rain potential continues as the 6-to-10 day outlook keeps moisture in the Pacific Northwest. Despite seeing more moisture, temperatures are expected to remain above average.
On average, Portland typically see highs in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs will likely remain above that threshold with the exception of Friday.
Despite warmer conditions returning to the region, snow will remain in the forecast for the Cascades. Snow elevation levels will return to 4,000 to 5,000 feet through the middle of the week.
This snow potential will keep places like Timberline Lodge with above average snowfall for the month of January.
