‘I don’t want to die young!’ sobs Around The World In 80 Weighs star as she breaks down after heart-wrenching warning
A CONTESTANT on Around The World In 80 Weighs broke down in tears after getting a heart-breaking warning.
Around the World in 80 Weighs sees six participants travel the globe in a bid to learn weight loss secrets from other cultures.
The first episode of the Channel 4 show saw the group head to Japan, where only four per cent of the population are classified as obese.
Tonight, leaving Japan behind, the tourists travel to Tonga- a country with one of the highest obesity rates in the world.
There they meet Ofeina, who is battling to turn around the island nation’s extreme obesity crisis, and Winnie, who, at only 28 years of age, is 47 stone.
Winnie takes the group to the local diabetes clinic, where they meet a young woman who, at the age of 27, has lost both of her legs.
One of the group, Marisa, develops a close relationship with Winnie, and realises that the two of them share many challenges – and that, just as she doesn’t want Winnie to die young from her weight, neither does Marisa’s family at home want to lose her.
In an emotional sneak peek ahead from tonight’s episode Marisa is seen shedding tears and reflecting on a conversation with her brother.
He expressed his concern about losing her, telling her that he doesn’t want her to die.
It comes after Therryi told their new friend Winnie, who they are staying with in Tonga, that she doesn’t want her to die due to her weight.
Marisa said: “So, is this like a normal size portion for this many people or would Tongan people normally have more for 10?”
Winnie replied: “Its more. Its more. Yeah. We grew up eating like this, so we’re already adapted to the idea of eating this type of portion and like our stomach is already… we need that amount of portion to fill us.”
Therryi said: “Please see us as an example of what you can achieve because nobody wants you to die.”
Marisa couldn’t hold back her tears as she remembered a similar conversation about her weight with her brother.
She shared: “When we were talking to Winnie and Therryi said about she doesn’t want… When Therryi said that obviously she didn’t want her to die young, I had that conversation with my brother a couple of years ago and like it just really hit home.
“Like that was how my brothers see me. It’s just horrible. I just don’t want to die young, and I just don’t want her to die young either.”
Around the World in 80 Weighs continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 4
