Coronation Street viewers open-mouthed as Tyrone dons outfit sent in by soap superfan against all odds
CORONATION Street viewers have been left open-mouthed after Tyrone Dobbs donned an outfit sent in by a soap superfan against all odds.
The mechanic is played by Alan Halsall in the ITV soap, and when he isn’t in his garage overalls he can usually be found in jeans, a T-shirt and zip up hoodie.
But some fans have noticed that the majority of the time, Tyrone wears a T-shirt emblazoned with a US city or state.
In a recent episode, he wore a grey one with Calumet Michigan written on it, and it prompted one Corrie viewer to post on a Reddit forum.
Posting a screen grab of a scene in the corner shop, they captioned it: “Where does he get all these shirts? Calumet is a pretty obscure/remote spot in the US.”
But fans of the show were shocked by one of the replies, as someone wrote: “I sent him an MSU Spartans shirt a couple of years ago with the logo of Michigan State University on it, and totally lost my s*** when he wore it on the show.
“He’s worn it a couple of times since and it always makes me chuckle. The Calumet one wasn’t me, though, and it’s so random to see it.
“It’s a tiny little village of 600 people in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.”
Another replied in shock: “Wait, what?? How did you send it to him? And what is his size? I want to do the same thing with some obscure Southern US stuff.”
The other fan answered: “Haha — you should! He was very appreciative!
“I just sent it to c/o Alan Halsall at ITV Studios. Put in a wee note that we recognized Tyrone’s love of American t-shirts and that we did a podcast about the show from Michigan and thought he might like this one.”
A fellow viewer replied: “He’s always wearing American tshirts, someone pointed it out years ago and now my eyes go straight for it.”
Another joked: “I get the feeling he’s now going to be absolutely flooded with American town shirts.”
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
