World’s best 50 cities to visit in 2024 – and two in England make the top 10

TWO UK cities have featured in a new list detailing the top cities in the world to visit in 2024.

When picking a holiday destination, it can be tempting to only consider places beyond your own country.

But it turns out two English cities are among the ten best places to visit this year.

That’s according to Time Out magazine, who released the results of their annual survey in which they look to find the 50 best cities in the world.

They asked city-dwellers around the world to tell them what it’s like to live in their hometowns at the moment.

They then take into account the opinions and insights of those locals to create their final rankings.

From their survey this year, the fourth best city in the world to visit is London.

According to the magazine, the English capital stands out because it has “more to do here than anywhere else on Earth“.

They wrote: “Our galleries are free. Our parks are massive. Our pubs are legendary. Our kebab meat is plentiful. There’s no city like it, and if you don’t agree, we genuinely don’t care. But please visit.”

As many as 94 percent of people living in London said they are happy there, while 95 per cent said they find the city beautiful.

Meanwhile, nine per cent of respondents said they’d move to London if they had the chance.

London isn’t the only UK city to make the list, with Liverpool coming in seventh with Time Out describing it as “one of the best places in the world to go for a guaranteed-good-time”.

Its nightlife, clubs and dive bars earned a special mention, as did its restaurants and music events happening this year.

The UK was the only country to have two cities in the top 10, with the rest all spread out across the world.

In top spot on the list was New York, where 15 per cent of people surveyed said they’d like to live if they could.

Time Out pointed to the Big Apple’s “constant must-see exhibits” community-led events and Broadway season among the many reasons why people should head to NYC this year.

Second in the list was Cape Town in South Africa, with its beaches, Table Mountain and its “multicultural soul” high up on the reasons to visit.

Behind it in third was Europe‘s most popular city, Berlin, which they bestowed with the title of “the European capital of cool”.

London followed the German capital, with another European city hot on its heels in fifth.

Madrid completed the top five, with survey participants praising its exciting nightlife, its spectacular food, its internationally renowned chefs and its vibrant culture.

The rest of the top 10 were completed by Mexico City in sixth, Liverpool in aeventh, Tokyo in eighth, Rome in ninth and Porto in tenth.

Meanwhile, these are the six best European cities for tourists to visit in 2024.

And these are some of the world’s best beach cities.
