I see that Arno Penzias, the American physicist who discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background - the so-called "echo of the Big Bang" - has died. He spotted it in the 1960s after finding a strange hum on his antenna at Bell Labs, which he originally thought was pigeon shit. It wasn't. It was the microwaves left over from the start of the universe that pervade all of space.
