US conducts another attack on Houthi targets in Yemen
The central command of the United States Army (CENTCOM) has announced that it conducted joint airstrikes with British forces targeting eight locations under the control of the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
CENTCOM, in a statement released on Tuesday, January 23rd, stated that the airstrikes took place at 11:59 PM local time the night before in areas controlled by the Houthi rebels supported by Iran.
According to CENTCOM, countries such as Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands have participated in these attacks on Houthi positions.
In a statement, CENTCOM stated that these attacks aimed to reduce the Houthi’s capability to continue their reckless and unlawful attacks on American and British vessels, as well as international commercial ships in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.
According to CENTCOM, the attacks on Houthi positions targeted missile systems, launchers, air defense systems, radars, and arms depots.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian has warned that the U.S. attacks on Houthi positions in Yemen are a “strategic mistake.”
It should be noted that this is the eighth U.S. attack on Houthi positions in Yemen in less than a month.
The Houthi rebels have claimed that their missile and drone attacks on international ships in the Red Sea are in support of Palestinians.
International media outlets have also reported that since the U.S. and British attacks from January 12 onwards, at least 75 people have been killed in the regions of Hudaydah, Hajjah, Dhamar, Taiz, and Al-Bayda.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council has approved a draft resolution by the United States calling for an end to Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
