Torkham border crossing reopens after 11-day closure

0

The Torkham crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan reopened on Tuesday after being closed for 11 days, according to officials.

Torkham Commissioner Mullah Abdul Jabbar announced that the crossing was open to all vehicles on Tuesday morning.

The closure of the crossing occurred when Pakistan unilaterally imposed visa requirements for truck drivers traveling on this route.

The decision to reopen the Torkham crossing followed meetings between a delegation of Afghan transporters and Chamber of Commerce representatives and Pakistani trade officials at the embassy in Kabul.

The Afghan delegation engaged in discussions with Pakistani embassy staff to request relaxation in visa requirements, citing the adverse effects on trade.

Officials and the Chamber of Commerce delegation successfully convinced Pakistan to grant a visa relaxation for drivers until the end of March.

This reopening is a positive step towards facilitating trade and transportation between the two countries.

The temporary relaxation of visa requirements aims to ease the challenges faced by truck drivers traveling between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
