I pay £600 for my 8 month old to live in an attic at the top of an old man’s house – it’s not as dodgy as it sounds
A MUM has revealed how she is paying £600 for her eight month old son to “live in an attic at the top of an old man’s house.”
Anya, who is mum to Arlo, is living on the top floor of an “old man’s house,” in Cardiff and explains that it has been a “very interesting experience.”
Her living space currently consists of one small living room, with a kitchen attached, as well as one bathroom and bedroom.
She says: “What’s hard is that this is the living room, Arlo’s playroom, the washing room and the kitchen all in one.”
The young mum is now documenting her journey as she moves out of the one bedroom place and into a two bedroom house.
Anya, who shares updates on her TikTok, says: “I wanted to be completely transparent and show my living situation with an eight month old.
“I’m grateful for a safe place but walking up two flights of stairs and not having enough space now that he is older does get stressful.”
She continues: “I’m raising my eight month old in an attic at the top of an old man’s house.
“That sounds so dodgy, but no.
“I live in a top floor flat, which is essentially the attic and the landlord, who is old enough to be my granddad lives at the bottom of the house – which has been a very interesting experience.”
Anya currently uses her son’s playpen as storage while they are preparing to move.
She is currently paying £600 a month for the tiny apartment, but appreciates the cost due to how “expensive” Cardiff is to “live in.”
Anya says: “In Cardiff that’s amazing for a flat.
“It’s in a nice area too, where everything is walking distance.”
Talking about the attic flat, she says: “The kitchen is tiny, the oven is really old fashioned, same with the washing machine.”
But Anya does like the living room section.
She says: “I’ve tried to make it as nice, and as cosy as possible, but the sofa is really uncomfortable.
“Arlo does have loads of toys, but we have to put them away.
“It’s really cute how high up we are, and the views from here can be so nice.”
Despite not liking the size of the place, Anya “will miss” her “little cosy place.”
She says: “Mainly because Arlo’s first few months have been in his but for the most part, I hate it. It’s so old fashioned, there’s no storage.
“It’s hard to take pride in your own place, when you don’t like your living situation.”
The video has since gone viral with many in shock at how much she pays a month on rent.
Housing crisis
One wrote: “£600 a month girl I got a five bedroom house and my mortgage is under 500 landlords preying on people and ripping them off.”
Another added: “My jaw dropped when you said £600 a month.”
To which Anya replied: “And there’s me thinking that’s good. Purely because most flats here are way more expensive than that.”
A third said: “£600??? I’m £750 three bed three bathroom living room dining room front and back garden double driveway. I’m in central Scotland. I thought I was paying too much.”

Anya then uploaded another video in response to the comments.
She said: “I’m absolutely in shock.
“The funniest thing is that I actually thought it was a good deal, for £600 a month, because I have been brainwashed because of how expensive it is to live in Cardiff at the moment.”
