‘It’s to die for!’ rave Netflix fans about ‘sublime’ crime series with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score
NETFLIX users are hooked on a new ‘fascinating’ thriller with impressive reviews and a cliffhanger ending.
The Italian murder mystery-thriller, which has fans in a frenzy, is based on a captivating true story.
The Law According to Lidia Poët tells the story of Italy‘s first female lawyer, who entered a male-dominated profession well over a hundred years ago.
The story is set in Turin in 1883, when Italy had just been founded as a country under the rule of King Victor Emmanuel II, having only unified in 1861.
It kicks off 62 years before women were granted full suffrage and female students were only just permitted to attend universities.
However, shortly afterwards Lidia Poët practised law to become a lawyer, but was suspended.
And now decades later, her story is being highlighted in a six-part Netflix show.
The show’s synopsis reads: “Forbidden from practising law, a woman prepares an appeal to overturn the court‘s decision in this true story of Lidia Poët, Italy’s first female lawyer.”
After watching all the episodes, fans took to X(formerly Twitter) and demanded that the series be immediately renewed.

One user hailed: “Please let there be season 2 of The Law According to Lidia Poet. The casts, the plot, the settings! All to die for.”
Many viewers of The Law According to Lidia Poët praised the actors, costume design and cinematography.
Another tweeted: “Deeply enjoying The Law According to Lidia Poët on Netflix- the late 19th-century piedmont setting is fascinating.
“The politics are elegantly evoked, the script is fizzing, the acting sublime, and oh my God, THE FROCKS! There’s a cape in episode 2 I’d gladly exchange a kidney for.”
While a third gushed: “The Law According to Lidia Poët is the best thing I’ve watched on Netflix for years – obsessed.”
Fortunately, there is good news in store for fans as a second series consisting of six episodes will be released in the spring of 2024 on Netflix.
It must be noted that while Lidia became the first female Italian lawyer, she wasn’t the first in the world to achieve such greatness, as there have been a handful of trailblazers who came before her.
In 1847, Serbian Marija Milutinović was the world’s first female lawyer, followed by Arabella Mansfield in the US in 1869.
Undoubtedly, Lidia made a significant impact in Italian history, and in 1919, the law changed to allow women to hold certain public offices.
Lidia remained active in international women’s movements until she died on February 25, 1949, joining the Consiglio Nazionale delle Donne Italie (The National Council of Italian Women) in 1903.
Netflix viewers have also been touched by another series which left fans ‘ugly crying’ and breaking down in tears over One Day’s gut-wrenching ending.
Fans of the series took to social media and shared that they’ve ‘never cried so much’ after watching the finale.
The Law According to Lidia Poët is available on Netflix.
