I felt horrible leaving my baby in economy while I flew business, but it was my only opportunity for a child-free flight
A MUM has caused a stir by choosing to fly business class while her 11-month-old baby was in economy.
Ellis Cochlin said the idea of having a baby-free flight was like “music to her ears” given that she travels long-haul with the tot multiple times a year.
The mum-of-one was flying from Paris to Los Angeles but questioned, “am I horrible?” for sitting at the front of the aeroplane while her daughter slept on the floor in economy.
She has been called “a bit strange” and “shocking” for the controversial decision.
Ellis’ daughter and partner were sat in economy together after he offered to do the lion’s share of childcare during the 11 hour flight.
As the British family are based in the US, Ellis often finds herself flying back to the UK with their daughter, Prim.
But she said finally having someone to help her look after the baby while thousands of feet up felt “amazing”.
“In our relationship, what we decide to spend money on is completely different,” she explained in a viral TikTok video.
“I love jewellery and put me in business class anyday, where Rob would never spend money on business class because he finds it pointless.
“He would spend money on restaurants where I would just never do that.
“The thought of having a baby-free flight was like music to my ears.
“I love that girl with my whole heart but let me tell you, flying long haul on your own with a baby is not easy.”
She joked that even her family accused her of being “a horrible person” .
Ellis insisted that anyone else would do the same if they had the chance.
Her video has totted up a whopping 350,000 views and over 300 people jumped into the comments to assert their opinions.
“A bit strange but each to their own,” Olivia-Leigh Sulliva commented.
“I think you both should have been there for each other and shared the responsibility,” Jojo added.
Ellis was quick to reply that her partner “offered for her to have a relaxing flight”.
“I’ve done it so many times, I don’t see an issue,” she said.
Others were quick to defend Ellis and say she “deserved some me-time” after flying across the world with a baby in tow plenty of times alone.
“Why are people giving hate?” Phillippa Ellen penned.
“Women are allowed to enjoy time away from their baby and not feel like a bad person.
“Let’s not mum shame. Enjoy it girl.”
