I’m a mum of 7 & make a 3-month supply of freezer meals at a time – people troll me but it saves me thousands every year
A MUM who makes three months of freezer meals at a time insists it saves her thousands every year.
Sharla is a mum-of-seven and swears by making three months worth of meals a time, and popping in her freezer until they’re ready to eat.
She and her friend and neighbour Christie have become so synonymous with a freezer meal that they even created an entire YouTube page because of it – Freezer Meals 101.
And now they’re sharing their top tips and tricks on TikTok too, with Sharla opening her freezer to show what it looks like inside.
As she did so, you could clearly see each meal prepped and ready, laying flat in a plastic bag.
“This is what my freezer looks like after just finishing doing our freezer meals,” she said.
She then showed what the freezer looked like after two weeks, after three weeks and after a month – to show how much of the meals they’d got through in four weeks.
But not everyone was convinced by Sharla’s method, with many even trolling her.
“To me, it’s like having leftovers all the time,” one said.
To which Sharla replied: “It really depends on what you’re making.
“Most of ours are raw ingredients frozen so when we cook it, it’s being cooked for the first time, not reheated.
“But some recipes are great!”
“How long does your stock last & why do you package it flat is it for easy storage?” another asked.
“I make three months of meals at a time,” Sharla responded.
“I prefer them flat so I can fit more in the freezer.”
“But doesn’t taste very good after frozen….just cook fresh,”a third insisted
“Does it taste as good though or turn out soggy at all?” someone else asked.
“Genuinely curious!”
With Sharlia writing: “Not everything freezes well, but once you know what does, the meals are delicious!
“As long as you’re not trying to freeze the wrong things, it won’t be soggy.”
“Omg why..?” another questioned.
With Sharla revealing that doing the freezer meals saves her “thousands of dollars a year, twenty or more hours a month, and some mental space”.
“Too much time, energy, plastic, electricity and it’s tasteless after defrosting,” someone else insisted.
As another pointed out: “You better hope the power doesn’t go out!”
Others were more complimentary about Sharla’s method, with one writing: “I do this but as a singleton. So a much smaller scale!”
“It works super well to do individual servings,” Sharla replied.
“Glad to hear you’re on the freezer meal train!”
“That is awesome,” another said.
“I did this in 14 day cycles. LIFE CHANGING and I need to do it again,” a third admitted.
As someone else commented: “The amount of food I throw out because it’s gone bad is staggering…
“This is genius!!
