Only Arsenal now stand in Tottenham’s way for all-time Premier League record
Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Brighton at the weekend saw the Lilywhites enter the history books as one of only four teams to score in 36 consecutive league games. However, they have a way to go before taking the ultimate record off their London rivals, Arsenal.
A dramatic injury time goal from Brennan Johnson helped Spurs defeat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The result pushed Ange Postecoglou‘s side into the top four in the Premier League once more.
Postecoglou has got Spurs playing excellent football and it’s safe to say the fans are very excited about the project the Australian is building right now.
Indeed, the future is seemingly very bright for Spurs, but it’s history that we’re concerned with on this occasion.
Spurs chasing Arsenal’s impressive goalscoring record
Tottenham have now scored in 36 consecutive Premier League matches, a run lasting almost a whole year. You’d have to go back to March 4th, 2023, and a 1-0 defeat to Wolves for the last time Spurs left a game goalless.
Spurs have scored 75 goals in that period, and The North London side now join Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal in an elite club to have achieved that feat.
However, their fierce rivals, Arsenal, have quite the advantage as the record-holders in this particular field. The Gunners scored in a whopping 55 consecutive league games between May 2001 and November 2002.
To match that, Postecoglou’s men will have to score in each of their remaining 14 games this season, and do the same in the first five games of next season, too.
Spurs Web Opinion
I genuinely do feel like I’m going to see Spurs score every time they take to the field. Whether they win or not is a different matter, but we have so much talent and energy going forward that it’s hard to imagine them being denied by any team.
