Train derails in Barber County

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Barber County Emergency Management (BCEM) says a train derailed east of Hazelton on Monday. It happened around 5:30 a.m.

Photos from the scene show numerous train cars piled up. BCEM now officially reports that 17 cars were involved.

BCEM says there is no danger to homes in the area, and no hazardous materials are involved.

BNSF Railway operates the line. They said in a statement that there were no injuries to the crew, and personnel are working to clear the line. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Tri City Road is still open north of Hazelton, according to BCEM.
