2/12/2024: Quiet & mild today, snow tomorrow
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
Another mild day today, with temperatures running well above average. Expect highs in the low to mid 40's with a mix of sun & clouds overhead.
A big system approaching from the south will bring us all some wintry weather tomorrow, with snow developing after midnight and continuing through the mid or late afternoon.
Some will see more snow than others, though. New weather models have indicated a slight shift to the south, and we've now got the Capital District in the 2-5" range. If you're towards the north, you'll be on the very edge of the system and totals will be significantly lower. Meanwhile, the Catskills, Mid-Hudson, and southern Berkshires could still get a good thumping - half a foot to a foot in many spots. Travel will be dicey in these higher-impact areas, go slow and be safe if you must travel!
Shovel what you can during the day, as we'll fall into the low 20's overnight and anything left untreated has the potential to freeze over. Valentine's Day looks brighter, but cool and blustery with highs around freezing.
A few more systems could roll through later in the week bringing a bit more in the way of light, passing snow - first Thursday night and into Friday morning, then again during the day Saturday. Temperatures are much more February-like through this period, as well: morning lows in the teens & 20's, afternoon highs in the 30's.
