1 dead, 1 injured in crash on Hwy 183 near Pilot Knob

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One person died and another was injured in a crash on South Highway 183 near the Pilot Knob neighborhood overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. on Hwy 183 near its intersection with Planeview Drive. It was a two-vehicle crash.

The highway was closed in both directions at FM 812 for several hours Monday morning but reopened around 8 a.m.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene, and ATCEMS said another person was pinned and extricated by the fire department and declared a trauma alert by medics. They were transported to a local hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
