I have a newborn and 6-month-old – I gave birth to both and people are so confused, I don’t get why they’re mad about it
A MUM-OF-TWO has claimed she has a six-month-old and newborn baby due to a rare medical phenomenon.
Hair stylist Jessica sparked intrigue on social media after revealing she was the biological mum to, and gave birth to, both tots.
And as pregnancies are typically nine months long, people were quick to demand answers from Jessica about how her situation occurred.
“I really don’t want to sit here and explain myself as to why I have a newborn and a six-month-old,” she responded on TikTok.
“But for the good people in the comments that are genuinely wanting to know what happened, I’m gonna answer.
“Yes y’all, it’s called superfetation.
“Somebody could get pregnant whilst pregnant.
“That’s what it’s called, if you guys didn’t know or didn’t do your research.”
Superfetation is an ultra-rare medical phenomenon where two children are conceived at different times in the same uterus.
That means embryos will be growing inside the womb at the same time but constantly at different stages of development.
Even though superfetation babies are technically twins, they spend different amounts of time in the womb.
Superfetation is so rare that there have been 10 recorded cases in the world, excluding US-based Jessica’s claims.
Last April, Aussie mum-of-four Sandra Searle gave birth to superfetation twins, leaving docs scratching their heads.
That would make Jessica the 11th woman to experience the phenomenon – but people aren’t convinced she’s telling the truth.
The new mum gave birth to her sons at different times, whereas superfetation pregnancies are birthed at the same time.
People have speculated that as Jessica had C-section births, the surgeons closed her up for a further six months after bringing her eldest into the world.
“There’s only been 10 confirmed cases of superfetation twins and never more than a four weeks difference,” one sceptic commented on Jessica’s TikTok video.
“If this was true, it would be major medical news.”
“In superfetation, the babies are never more than a few days or weeks apart,” a second challenges.
Jessica has refused to address questions and criticism.
“People are really so nosey and this is the only explanation I will give,” she said.
