Apple has clarified that placing a wet iPhone in a bag of rice can actually cause more damage to the device. Instead, Apple recommends tapping the iPhone to remove excess liquid and leaving it in a dry area with airflow for at least 30 minutes. If a liquid alert is still present, the iPhone should be left to dry for up to a day. If the phone is still not charging after drying, Apple suggests unplugging and reconnecting the cable.
