BBC Breakfast in major hosting shake-up as show bosses switch up Carol Kirkwood’s role after decades presenting weather
BBC Breakfast underwent a major presenting change this morning amid a string of recent hosting shake-ups on the show.
The morning programme was back as usual from 6am to wake Britain up with the day’s headlines.
Jon Kay and Sally Nugent were hosting proceedings following Sally’s absence from the programme earlier in the week.
However, the show underwent a notable change as show bosses altered Carol Kirkwood‘s hosting role.
Carol, 61, has been a much-loved member of the BBC Breakfast family since 1997 with the star having hosted weather updated from the BBC’s London studios for decades.
The popular star regularly chats to the programme’s daily hosts in Salford down the line but it was all change on today’s programme.
In a surprise to fans, Carol was live in the Salford studio with Jon and Sally.
When the programme relocated from London to Salford in 2012, Carol opted not to make the move but the star delighted viewiers with her unexpected trip up North.
Carol dazzled on the programme as she showed off her curves in a tight-fitting red dress that showed off her long legs.
Featuring a low-cut neckline, Carol could not wipe the smile off her face as she grinned at every opportunity to be in person with her colleagues.
Jon Kay also expressed his delight as he excitedly declared that Carol was “in the studio” as she presented her first few bulletins.
The studio switch-up comes a day after a disaster that left Jon Kay and Sally Nugent without any hot drinks.
Sharing a picture of an empty coffee mug, Jon wrote: “Some very serious news to bring you this morning. The #BBCBreakfast canteen appears to be shut.
“No coffee. Genuinely not sure how the next three and a half hours will pan out.”
The situation later come up on air as it was clear that Jon, 54, was left rattled by the lack of hot beverages on set.
Early into today’s programme, he told sally that he was in a “black coffee hole” due to the closure of the canteen.
Jon implied the hosts had no idea what had happened as he told the viewers at home: “Our canteen is closed for some reason. Our brilliant canteen staff aren’t here.”
