We went to see if Sainsbury’s fashion is worth the hype… the knitwear is ‘vile’ & there are jeans that took us to 2003
OVER the years, supermarkets have really upped their fashion game – but is the TU range at Sainsbury’s really worth the hype?
This is what two fashionistas from the TikTok-famous duo, @samkelseydresstoimpress, decided to find out for themselves, sharing their honest thoughts in a clip posted online.
”We thought we’d go to TU and check out to see if this is where all the good stuff has been hiding,” the style enthusiasts said in the video, before browsing the aisles in the women’s section.
Although fans of the store have been raving about their clothing line, which is said to be full of ”Zara dupes”, the two fashionistas initially didn’t appear to be too amazed by the collection.
For instance, amongst the tops, they didn’t spot anything that was ”standing out” and a bright pattern jumper in the Spring knitwear range was ”vile” in their eyes.
As the duo walked around their Sainsbury’s, they stumbled across a khaki parka that was giving them major ”Oasis” vibes – but although there was plenty of stock, the duo said they ”definitely” were not interested in this number.
Just like the floral patterns they’d spotted in the blouse and shirt section, the new TU dresses, too, looked like they’d belong on ”a New Look shop floor”.
Fortunately for the duo, who’ve won more than 390k followers with their content, things were looking more promising as they walked towards the Trends aisle.
A Sainsbury’s black dress with a belt and a pair of white trainers seemed to be a win for them, as they described the outfit as ”pretty decent”.
However, once they had left the Trends aisle, the fashionistas appeared to be horrified, when they stumbled upon a pair of boxy wide leg jeans with pockets around the thighs.
”Back in the about 2003. These were a wardrobe staple […] on your way to the skatepark.”
Although most of the items appeared to be ”black on black, on black”, there was also a cute cardigan with buttons, which they reckoned was ”very Kate Middleton”.
”With a pair of jeans, that could look nice,” they admired the stripy V-neck cardi.
On the lookout for your perfect Spring trench coat as the weather slowly gets warmer? The duo also found a stunning £45 light beige version, which they approved of.
”We explored the entirety of the women’s wear section and were very underwhelmed,” they shared the final verdict in the caption.
”It’s always a difficult time of year for fashion in between seasons, hopefully we will see an improvement within a few weeks.”
Dozens of fellow fashion lovers flocked to comments to share their thoughts, with one left in two minds.
”With Tu, the stuff is either really hitting the mark or totally missing it. I’ve bought some awesome stuff over the years!”
Another thought: ”i went to Tu the other night, it was all very frumpy and boring.”
”My local store was awful but online was so much better,” a third chimed in.
”Bought a lovely pair of kick flare jeans from the Ashton branch a few days ago for £20, they fit great,” a delighted customer said.
But although the two seemed to be rather disappointed with the items found in their store, fellow shoppers have been raving about the supermarket’s fashion aisle.
Some of the latest bargains include a gorgeous £7 TU jacket, a ”dreamy” navy cardigan and even an £18 dupe of the viral Adidas trainers.
