Colonie girls basketballs cruises past Saratoga Springs to land in Class AAA semifinals
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- It was all hands on deck for the Colonie girls basketball team in a definitive showing to open up sectional play Tuesday night.
Seven Raiders connected on at least three, or more field goals in the team's Class AAA quarterfinal matchup with fifth-seeded Saratoga Springs, en route to a 70-46 victory.
The Blue Streaks maintained an early, 4-1 edge, but Colonie closed the first quarter on a 14-2. And the Raiders' offense shined in the second stanza, outscoring 'Toga 25-7 to maintain a 27-point edge at halftime with the score 40-13.
Colonie grew its lead to 33 heading into the fourth quarter before the Saratoga offense came alive for 25 points in the quarter, which closed the final margin to 24.
Colonie senior Gabrielle Martin racked up a team-best 16 points and was joined in double figures in the scoring column by Olivia Hoffman and Kendall Abraham, who both finished with 11.
Saratoga's star forward, Carly Wise, did all she could to keep her team afloat, turning in a game-best 19 points.
Colonie, the four-seed in its bracket, awaits top-seeded Shenendehowa in a state-ranked battle set for next Thursday, Feb. 29 at Hudson Valley Community College. Opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
Saratoga Springs concludes its season with an overall record of 5-16.
