Tuchel, 50, arrived to replace Julian Nagelsmann in March 2023 on a deal until June 2025 but he’ll be leaving a year earlier than planned.
He led Bayern to last season’s Bundesliga title, but they now sit eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and have suffered successive league defeats.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen announced that both parties had agreed to “mutually end our collaboration” following “an open, good conversation”.
“Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024-25 season,” he added.
But who will that new coach be?
Early reports suggest that Leverkusen’s highly-rated Xabi Alonso is the standout option, and he’s favourite with Sky Bet at 3/1.
Alonso, who is also the 1/2 favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, has worked wonders with Leverkusen.
The club sit top of the division with an eight-point advantage heading into the final 14 games of the season. Leverkusen have finished as runner-up in the Bundesliga five times without winning the competition, which is a record in German football.
Free agent Jose Mourinho is next in the betting at 7/2 having been relieved of his duties with Roma back in January.
Jurgen Klopp, the former Borussia Dortmund boss, and Zinedine Zidane are tied together at 6/1, ahead of Antonio Conte at 7/1.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly being viewed as a short-term option by Bayern Munich if they sack Thomas Tuchel, but he must manage 10 games to be deemed a winner in Sky Bet’s Next Manager market.
