Ewen MacIntosh’s final post – as ‘Keith’ from The Office relied on personalised videos for money after going bankrupt
EWEN MacIntosh’s final social media post has emerged as the star relied on personalised videos for money after going bankrupt.
The actor, best known for playing Keith in classic British comedy The Office, has died aged 50.
His last upload on X was reposting a celebrity shout-out service selling personal video messages.
The tweet reads: “Gift idea? Why not a personalised video message from Ewen MacIntosh for birthdays/surprises, etc.
“Get yours at celebvm.com/ewenmacintosh #TheOffice #ewenmacintosh @ewenmacintosh.”
A video also shows Ewen quoting memorable lines from The Office – but with a personalised touch.
It comes as…
- Ricky Gervais shared an emotional tribute to his co-star
- Ewen had opened up about his health battles previously
- Devastated fans vow to have a Scotch egg in the actor’s honour
- A final photo of Ewen was taken just weeks on from his After Life cameo
Ewen can be heard saying: “Alright – Keith here. It’s your 55th birthday and hopefully spirits are in the sky. See you down Chasers.”
He was best known as Wernham Hogg accountant Keith Bishop, who had a monotone answerphone message and would have have rather had a career as a DJ.
Among his memorable scenes were when he ate a scotch egg and when he dressed up as Ali G for Red Nose Day.
In 2016, Ewen declared bankruptcy after owing the taxman thousands of pounds.
While Martin Freeman and Ricky Gervais became Hollywood royalty, Ewen struggled to follow suit.
But he found a new way to make money when the Covid-19 lockdowns started.
He said: “When lockdown happened this whole fad of like video messaging, like Cameo and CelebVM, really kind of took off.
“I would say all my requests bar none are for me to do Keith lines and Keith quotes for people’s birthday messages, stag dos and weddings and so on.”
Ewen also teamed up with Gervais again in the final series of After Life, where he played “Buffet Man” – a man barred from an all-you-can-eat restaurant.
He had roles in Miranda and Little Britain and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007.
In 2020, Ewen appeared on Celebrity Come Dine With Me alongside Charlotte Crosby and Dawn Ward.
Talent agency Just Right Management confirmed his death in a statement, saying: “With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved comedy genius Ewen MacIntosh.
“His family thank all who supported him, especially Willow Green Care Home.”
The Office star and co-creator Gervais tweeted: “Extremely sad news. The very funny and very lovely Ewen Macintosh, known to many as ‘Big Keith’ from The Office, has passed away.
“An absolute original. RIP.”
He opened up on his health battles – revealing in 2022 he had been admitted to hospital.
