Turkey detains over 40 Afghan refugees
The Turkish Coast Guard has announced the detention of 42 Afghan refugees, including 15 children, in the city of Izmir, Turkey.
According to reports, these refugees were apprehended on Tuesday, February 20th, from a plastic boat in the Dikili area of Izmir.
According to the command teams of the Turkish Coast Guard, these refugees were deemed “illegal” and were referred to the Foreign Nationals Return Center in Izmir after identification.
Previously, Turkish media had reported the detention of 69 Afghan refugees from the city of Diyarbakir in Turkey.
This comes as the expulsion and detention of Afghan refugees from Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan have increased.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Interior, nearly 50 individuals have been detained on charges of “human trafficking” in various cities of the country in the past three months.
The Turkish Ministry of Interior emphasized that in 2023, 68,687 Afghan migrants were detained in this country, and some of them were deported.
Meanwhile, Turkish authorities have stated that operations to combat the entry and detention of illegal migrants will continue across Turkey.
It is worth mentioning that according to official statistics, more than 300,000 Afghan migrants are living in Turkey.
